Ravers Review

Ravers is about a hungry young journalist, who also happens to be insanely germophobic, looking to make her mark in her job. When she’s told by her boss to get out there and “get your hands dirty” she’s invited by her cousin to come along for the ride and check out an illegal underground Rave. Little do these partiers know, this abandoned facility was once the home to a popular energy drink that accidentally became contaminated resulting in a roid juiced up employee going stark raving mad killing other employees. Soon, they find there’s still some of that magic go-go zombie juice still lurking in the building and that’s when the fun really kicks off.

This is no big budget horror/comedy movie. If that’s what you’re expecting, you’re going to be disappointed. What it is though, is a decent schlocky 90 minutes of popcorn eating entertainment. The performances were good. When I first saw Natasha Henstridge was attached to this I expected her to be a large part of the movie. She is not. Instead we get a fun performance by Georgia Hirst as Becky – who some may recognize from Vikings(a series I’ve yet to pick up). Her insecurities and drive to survive and save her friends are constantly at battle. The Ravers that become infected are decent as well.

Most of the special effects used in Ravers were practical effects which I find to be far more interesting and enjoyable to watch. There is one very noticeable digital effect early that looks good but not quite good enough to not roll my eyes at. Some of the Ravers had some extremely enjoyable practical effects and were even a bit unsettling to look at.

All in all, Ravers is without a shadow of doubt a B-class horror movie but I’m pretty sure that was their intent if I’m completely honest. It never takes itself too seriously and at the end of it all it’s just cheesy fun.

Ravers is available now on VOD
