The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a bright, fast-moving sequel that leans hard on spectacle and Nintendo nostalgia. It has plenty of color, energy, and familiar characters, but the story feels thin and rushed, which keeps it from landing as strongly as it could.
I absolutely love the animation and bright vibrant visuals. The galaxy-hopping setting gives the movie a bigger, more playful look, and the action scenes are lively enough to keep things moving. The cast also does enough to make the experience fun, even when the script is mostly servicing references and cameos.
What holds it back is the lack of emotional depth. The movie piles on set pieces and fan service, but the plot can feel crowded and lightweight, and it doesn’t spend enough time letting the story breathe. In the end, it’s entertaining as a blast of colorful Mario energy, but it doesn’t quite deliver the heart or sharpness that would make it truly great.
