Oh…Sir! The Insult Simulator – Review

What can I say about Oh…Sir! The Insult Simulator?

Well it’s an interesting idea to say the least.

Basically, Oh Sir is a fighting game but instead of weapons, fancy moves or fatalities you use your wits and words to take down your opponent. In each match, there is a pool of words and phrases the players take turns picking in an effort to string together a cohesive and life crushing insult to their opponent.

One thing to note is the game will drop the hammer on you for poor grammar by dishing out a little damage to your health bar and sometimes resulting in an overall score of 0 against the opponent. It doesn’t, however, take into account some of the nonsense that can be laid down. As long as the sentence works it’s fair game. Regardless of what’s said or if it’s even funny.

The database of phrases or words to be used isn’t all that large from what I’ve seen and gets extremely repetitive pretty quickly. More often than not, you’ll see the same things pop up round after round and a few times I’ve been able to dish out the same power combo of words against an opponent for a quick victory.

Each character has his or her own weaknesses and once you figure them out, you can exploit those weaknesses to rack up combos dealing more damage. The combos are performed by using the same phrase or word targeted at their weakness in consecutive rounds for even more damage resulting in damage multipliers.

The game has a few game modes to choose from – Either you insult the CPU in a short 4 round tournament, insult a friend on the couch or insult a stranger via the internet. I don’t have anyone to play with on the couch and I tried many times to get into an online game but was ultimately unsuccessful finding a match. All in all I’d have to say that  Oh…Sir! The Insult Simulator! is a unique crack at a popular genre. I’m not sure I could really recommend this to anyone but I will say that I hope this won’t be the last we see in the franchise. I think they have the basis for something that could be pretty funny if they spend more time working on the sentence building and the refined the insults.
