Halo Infinite Campaign Review – Xbox Series X

It’s been 6 long years since we had a chance to step into the shoes of Master Chief. When last we saw him, he was being hunted down by Spartan Locke, while trying to track down and convince Cortana to stand down from her decision to use the Guardians as a means of forcibly achieving galactic peace. Fast forward a period of time and this is where we find ourselves introduced to a new human character who goes by the name “Echo 216” and a new AI known only as “Weapon”. Echo 216 is stranded on a mostly dead ship floating in space who happens upon Chief floating lifeless in hibernation sleep as we’ve all seen in the early trailers. Soon after, Chief more or…

Riders Republic Review – Xbox Series X

Gamers of the early 2000s will no doubt remember the “EXTREME!” phase of the world was going through. Everything from your diet sodas to socks had some sort of “EXTREME” slant to it but there was 1 special series that took EXTREME to the next level and it was a little Extreme Sports title called SSX. It’s been a long time since there was an entry in that series, but fans need not to look any further because Ubisoft has delivered Riders Republic.  I’ll admit, that I wasn’t fully sold on Riders Republic when I first saw the game. I felt that part of my life(youth) had passed me by and I really wasn’t sure that it was something I’d get into but when you…

Far Cry 6 Review – Xbox Series X

***Full disclosure, I’ve logged in about 40 hours of gameplay but currently I’ve yet to actually complete the campaign despite my best efforts. I received the game from Ubisoft on Friday evening and started playing Saturday night. While i haven’t completed the campaign, I’ve experienced what the game has to offer in respect to the inventory, the world, I know where the story is going and I’ve experienced the various missions types and found collectibles. *** Set on the fictional tropical island of Yara, Far Cry 6 sets players in the role of Dani Rojas, a retired Yaran military officer who joins a group of freedom fighters attempting to over throw the ruling dictator El Presidente Anton Castillo, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Castillo has aspirations…

Returnal – Impressions from a Skeptic

I’m calling this post an impressions article. The reason for that is I’ve actually managed to log in quite a lot of time into playing Returnal but I’ve yet to finish the game. When Returnal was first announced I was impressed with what I saw but then news started creeping out that this was one of those bullet hell rogue-like games that I have rarely found myself enjoying. Sure the game looked pretty and the gameplay looked pretty amazing to me but the term “Rogue-like” kept creeping into the back of my brain. As did the idea that it would be one of those incredibly difficult games to complete. After speaking with some friends who managed to get the game early we chatted about it…

The Corruption of Divine Providence – Review

I’m a fan of indie film and I like that in recent years I’ve had the opportunity to watch and review Canadian made films that I may not have otherwise heard about. When I was offered The Corruption of Divine Providence I raced to find the trailer and thought Heck yes I’d love to watch a horror movie. So how is it? Below you’ll see my full review though keep in mind that while I try to keep these things spoiler free there will be a few minor spoilery type comments. The Corruption of Divine Providence, filmed in Manitoba is set in the fictional small town of St. Michel and focuses on the a family of Metis descent, the Seraphin family. Jeanne Seraphin, played by…

The Last Villains: Mad Dog and the Butcher Review

If you’re a fan of wrestling, you’ve probably heard or have watched a segment featuring the Canadian wrestling legends Mad Dog and Butcher Vachon. In the documentary, The Last Villains: Mad Dog and the Butcher we get a behind the curtains look at one of wrestling’s early wrestling families as the last surviving member of the Vachon wrestling legacy Paul “The Butcher” Vachon recounts his story from a young boy to the successful career he enjoyed at his brother, Maurice “Mad Dog” Vachon’s side in professional wrestling. I remember watching these wrestling legends when I was just a kid during their final years as they stood side by side with such greats as Andre The Giant, Mean Gene Oakerland and even Hulk Hogan on Maple…

Lost Words: Beyond the Page (Xbox Series X) – Review

Lost Words: Beyond the Page is a typical yet a uniquely conceptualized and simple 2D platformer from Sketchbook games and Modus Games. Players assume the role of a young girl named Izzy who dreams of nothing more than becoming a writer. Izzy is also quite close with her grandmother who supports Izzy’s aspirations. Izzy decides to buckle down and just do what writers do and write. The story bounces between the pages of Izzy’s personal daily journal and the pages of the fantasy world she’s created called Estoria where players take control of Georgia, another young girl whose “Village Elder” passes on the responsibility of caring for her village. What’s neat about Lost Words: Beyond the Page is during the story sequences where we learn…

The Medium Review – Xbox Series X

If you’ve been around here for a while, then you know that I’m a big fan of horror film and atmospheric horror games like Resident Evil, Alien Isolation and the Layers of Fear series. Bloober Team announced The Medium would be a launch title for the new generation of Xbox games coming to Xbox Gamepass and I was immediately excited. The aesthetics of it were like nothing I’ve seen before with a split screen mechanic that looked most impressive in the videos shown early on. After a delay from the original December release by about 6-7 weeks we finally got to take the latest title from the house of horror Bloober Team. The Medium puts players in the role of Marianne, a person with incredible…

Olija Review (Xbox Series X)

Olija follows a man named Faraday who is shipwrecked in a mysterious country named Terraphage. Armed with his harpoon, Faraday explores the world of Terraphage and discovers strange people/creatures and overcomes various obstacles and puzzles. During his time in Terraphage, he also encounters a woman woman named Olija, who seems to be connected with Faraday in some way. Beyond that, the story is meant to be experienced, and I think that those of you who dive in, will be pulled into the narrative and you’ll enjoy it.  The gameplay is also quite simple but as effective as anything you’ll play this week. Olija is a side-scrolling title that has the same sort of feel in level design as you may have found with early generation…
